1970s Football Programmes
By the 1970’s F.A Cup final programmes were being produced in large quantities and are relatively easily to come by with the exception of just a handful, one being the 1970 replay between Chelsea and Leeds United, having drawn 2-2 at Wembley they were to meet again just a few days later at Old Trafford where Chelsea would win 2-1 and be F.A Cup champions for the first time in their history.
The 1970’s saw the rise of British clubs in European competition and in particular Liverpool, they won the European cup in 77 and 78 and had also won the UEFA cup in 73 and 76. The UEFA cup was a two leg affair, and the programmes for these games were usually produced in good numbers when a British team was to host the home leg of the final but out on the continent they were only produced in modest quantities and so are in demand among collectors.
In 1974 West Germany would host the tenth World Cup. 16 nations qualified for the tournament and an official tournament brochure was produced in German. Individual game programmes were also produced and sold locally at the tournament and are highly sought after and valuable with the final between The Netherlands and West Germany being particularly popular with World Cup collectors.
