1960s Football Programmes

The 1960’s saw the birth of the league cup, with 1961 being the debut year when Aston Villa and Rotherham United contested the first final over two legs. The following season the final would be played between Norwich City and Rochdale again over two legs. The final was played over two legs up until 1966 when it was decided it should be moved to Wembley as a single match final with a place in the UEFA Cup for the winners to encourage the major clubs to take part. Up to this point there was only a modest print run of programmes and thus are now tricky to come by.

The most famous moment in English football history came in 1966 when England beat West Germany 4-2 in the World Final, with Geoff Hurst scoring the only World Cup Final hatrick to date. The programme from the final is probably one of the most sought after of all time, and is great investment for the future as demand will only increase with 50 year anniversary fast approaching.
